Gone Fish’n
Jesus said to Peter and the others . . . "Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men!" (Matthew 4:18-22)
Have you gone fish’n lately? Do you know what it takes to be a fisher of men?
If you are still unsure about starting a program like Release Time or even being a part of one, listen with your heart as you read the following compelling arguments!
If we take an honest assessment of our motives (what motivates us to do what we do), what would we discover about our faith and ourselves? If we say we are Christians, but neglect to obey the very commands of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, what does that say about our love for Him? Jesus said, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." (John 14:15) Jesus also said to Peter . . . "If you Love Me then feed my sheep." (John 21:17)
When we say that we love someone it shows in our actions and in our words. If we say that we love someone, but speak evil against him or her and treat them with disrespect could that really be called LOVE?
When we become followers of Jesus Christ (Christians) it should be evident to ourselves and others whom it is that we love and serve.
So, if we say that we love and serve Jesus . . . then what would our actions and words be?
THINK ABOUT IT
Jesus said that we would know true believers by their fruits (Matthew 7:15-20). If an apple tree says that it is a pear tree but in due season bears apples, what kind of tree is it really? We can say that we are Christians, but until the fruit starts showing, will anyone really know what we are?
APPLICATION / PREPARATION
We are commanded by God to pass down knowledge of Him and His Commandments to our children and our children’s children (Deuteronomy 4:9).
Why is it important to pass down knowledge? If we are not diligent in this we will become a nation who has forgotten God and sin against Him!
So, how do we continue to pass down knowledge? How do we keep the cycle going?
Of course Church, Sunday School, Bible Study Groups, Christian Schools and Christian Radio and Television are very key in the passing down of knowledge…….but there is one other important place that many overlook, a place that has been neglected since 1962…….THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS!
BIBLE STUDY COURSES, along with READING, WRITING, ARITHMITIC AND SCIENCE, are vital in training our children for adulthood. 2ND Timothy 3:16 says ……."All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." If we take seriously what we have just read here, we would have to admit that the Holy Bible is vitally important to the upbringing of our children. If we look around us we can see that passing down knowledge of God and His Commandments has slowed considerably. We have got to change that.
How did Jesus Teach? Jesus taught by using two very obvious techniques. . . . . . . . WORDS and EXAMPLE. By His words he taught us with love and compassion. By His actions Jesus set the example we should follow. We understand by the way Jesus taught that words and example are effective and must coincide one with the other. For example: If Jesus’ words were forgiving, so too then were His actions and example. What are we teaching our children today by our words and example? If we tell our children that getting drunk is wrong, yet we turn right around and get drunk ourselves . . . . . . what has both our words and our actions shown our children? If we tell our children that premarital sex is wrong, yet we allow them to watch movies and listen to music that has immoral sexual content and behavior, what have we taught them? We have got to be consistent . . . . . . . IF IT IS WRONG, IT’S WRONG! Jesus Taught by words and example. . . . . . . children learn by listening to our words and watching our example. . . . . . . what are we as a nation teaching our children by our ‘words and example’? Are we teaching them Holiness or are we teaching them Worldliness?
There is a real danger and warning from God for leading children astray . . . . . . . (Matthew 18:1-7) Verse 5 – "Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me." Verse 6 – "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a mill stone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea" I don’t know about you but I take that verse very seriously! Jesus said in Matthew 19:14 to "Let the little children come to me and DO NOT HINDER THEM……."
Reaching Public School Children
There is a mission field in your neighborhood! You don’t have to go far to find it! We have neglected the public school mission field for far too long! We have seen what has resulted from that neglect. Many children are afraid now to go to school. No longer is it just the class ‘bully’ they worry about, or that big test in science class, now they are concerned if they will live through the day….worried if the student sitting next to them has bombs or a gun! America is reaping what she has sewn back in 1962. In 1962 we legally voted God out of our public schools. It is bad enough when individuals refuse to acknowledge God, but, we actually took legal steps through our Supreme Court to reject God! For the past 41 years knowledge of God has not been passed down in our public schools. For 41 years there has been a pot of destruction on SLOW BOIL, gaining momentum every passing year until finally it boiled over and now we are getting burned!
As we have stated in other portions of this web site, we do not pretend that a Release Time Program will stop all school violence, but it is a positive step in the right direction. Our schools now must incorporate ‘Morality Teaching’ into their curriculum. This morality teaching is not based on a solid foundation; rather it is based on sand! A Release Time Program (if done properly) can provide a proper foundation for the schools attempt at morality teaching. There are Christian Teachers and Principals in the public schools who would love for someone to come in and back them up, provide the foundation they know is needed if ‘morality’ is to be taught successfully. They are legally bound not to provide GOD as the foundation. . . but WE CAN!
Please consider getting involved in your public school with a Release Time Program. This neglected mission field is full of children who need salvation and truth, children who need role models that live and promote a moral & upright lifestyle.
