The following poem was found in the Helvetia, a newspaper published in Tell City, Indiana.

Es klingt ein Name stolz und prächtig, In unserm neuen Vaterland, Und jedes Herz erzittert mächtig, Wenn dieser Name wird genannt. Ihr kennt den würd'gen Träger schon: "Abe Linkoln" heißt des Volkes Sohn. Die "Freiheit" wieder zu erringen, Für die so mancher Tapf're fiel; Dies soll und wird durch ihn gelingen, Er führt uns sicher zu dem Ziel; Das sagen selbst die Feinde schon: Weil Linkoln ist des Volkes Sohn. Dem stolzen Land erblüht nur Schaden. Weil nicht des Volkes Stimme spricht: "Ihr Sklavenhalter-Demokraten, Bis hierher aber weiter nicht! Jetzt fort du Bock, von deinem Thron, Denn Linkoln ist des Volkes Sohn." Drum auf! Ihr wahren Patrioten, Zeigt Euren ächten Freiheitssinn, Und stürzt die Herrschaft der Despoten Und wählt für Linkoln und Hamlin. A name resounds proudly and splendily in our new Fatherland and every heart trembles mightily whenever this name is mentioned. You know the worthy bearer already: "Abe Lincoln" is the name of the people's son. To regain freedom again for which so many a brave one fell; This should and will succeed through him; He leads us certainly to the goal; even the enemy already says that: because Lincoln is the people's son. Only devestation blossoms in the proud land because the voice of the people does not speak: "You slaveholder Democrats, this far, but not farther! Now away, you goat, from your throne, then Lincoln is the people's son." Therefore, up! You true patriots, show your genuine sense of freedom, and overthrow the rule of the despots and vote for Lincoln and Hamlin. Prosperity will be your reward, then Lincoln is the people's son. --- Fr.
