Mission Statement

Holy Family Catholic Parish is a community of strong faith; welcoming, worshipping, working and celebrating life together in Jesus Christ. Strengthened by our rich heritage of commitment to Catholic Education, we will strive to maintain a nurturing environment in which the spiritual lives of our members (youth, families, singles and seniors) can thrive. The beautiful stained glass windows of our church serve as a constant reminder of the importance of the family as the core of our beliefs. The warmth and support felt by our church community enables us to reach out to others in time of need, so that we can share the Good News of the reign of God and be a sign of Christ's love in the local community and world. Pastoral Letter

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Holy Family Church,

In 1947 the Bishop of Evansville challenged the Catholics living southeast of the Patoka River in Jasper to establish a new parish and school under the patronage of the "Holy Family". As the parish community grew in size, new facilities were added to continue its original mission. Some of these additions included a new school addition to the west, a convent for the teaching sisters, a new rectory and the present church. Most of these facilities still have the original furnishings and utilities. The present parish and school offices need to be expanded to accommodate the ministry needs of the parish.

After several years of fact finding and meeting with the various active ministries of the parish, a master plan was developed. This plan was presented to the parish council and the parish community for their input and approval. Your input from the town hall meetings indicated that we have no choice but to move forward with the proposed master plan.

This brochure explains that we have chosen to do a two-phase program. The first phase consists in updating our present facilities - that is church and school. The second phase is new construction to meet future parish needs. It is an ambitious project but no more challenging than the original project some 50 years ago. After much prayer and consultation with the parish community, I am convinced that we need to do this project to continue the mission originally initiated by our founding families.

God calls us to be good stewards of His creation. God calls us to be good stewards of our facilities to continue His work on this earth. We need to take care of what we have and plan for the future. I invite you to share in Jesus' mission here at Holy Family. Sharing your time, talent and financial treasure in this mission is an investment in Faith, Family and Future. This is an exciting project and attainable if we truly believe. Pray for its success!

May God bless your generous stewardship,

Fr. John Boeglin, Pastor

History...

Father Othmar Schroeder founded Holy Family parish in 1947. Initially 221 families made up the parish roles. Holy Family School held its first classes for 207 students in 1951. A new church was built in 1979 at a cost of 1.4 million dollars. Prior to that, the gymnasium was used as the church. Today the parish membership is nearly 1,000 households. Holy Family supports and operates the only preschool through 8 Catholic school in the county with over 300 students. There is currently no parish center, pastor and staff office space, community hall, meeting rooms, etc.

Parish/School Needs...

From 2000 to 2002 a facilities management committee held numerous meetings to study the total needs of the parish. Hundreds of hours were spent with parishioners, study groups, teachers, staff, and architects to thoroughly identify the needs.

The school facility, now fifty years old, was in need of many improvements. An old inefficient heating system, falling ceiling tiles and broken down equipment were in constant need of repair. There was no air conditioning, elevator for the handicapped, or meeting rooms for parents and teachers. At 22 years old, the church was in need of new carpet, lighting, heating/air, and new paint. Parking, both regular and handicapped, was very insufficient.

Facilities Prayer - Building for the Future...

O God, who orders the universe, creating and loving all who
dwell upon the earth, We are Your faithful servants here, before
You, offering thanksgiving and praise for the abundant gifts
that You have given to each one of us.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, we make every effort to become
good stewards of our time, talent, and treasure.

We seek to live Your mission and strive to build up Your
kingdom on earth through our Catholic Christian faith.

You know O God, we need to have facilities to carry out Your
mission; places that are available to bring about Your vision
for us, to teach, to meet, to pray, to work;
to be welcoming and hospitable.

We pray for our growing community, and ask You to bless our
efforts as we study, prepare, and plan for building our future.

Open our minds to see clearly Your vision for us so that we may
be Your vision for others.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN!
