Welcome to the Home Page of the 31st Indiana Volunteer Infantry. The 31st IVI played a significant role in the Civil War, participating in several Major "Western" battles and sieges. The regiment's men mostly came from the west central area of Indiana around Terre Haute and surrounding counties. The regiment was one of a few Indiana regiments that served in the Civil War all four years and one of the last to be mustered out. It was listed as one of the Top 300 Regiments in William F. Fox's "Regimental Losses in the American Civil War (1861-1865)". It fought in such Hellish battles as Fort Donelson, Shiloh, Stones River, Chickamauga, Resaca, Kennesaw Mtn. Siege of Atlanta, Franklin and Nashville. Dedication: This site was inspired by and is dedicated to my Great, Great Grandfather, Andrew Gosnell, the men of the 31st Indiana Volunteer Infantry and all of those brave men on both sides of the war, Union and Confederate, who fought for what they believed in. This Web site is one of the largest sites dedicated to a single Civil War Regiment. There are 31 individual Web Pages as part of the 31st Indiana Vol. Infantry Web site. This site contains information on the Regiments' History, Flags, Battles, Uniform and Weapons and information on my Great Great Grandfather, Andrew Gosnell.
