This website focuses on the Bettag families who emigrated from Dudenhofen, Rheinpfalz, Germany to the areas near Mariah Hill (Maria Hilf), Spencer County, Indiana in the mid-1840s.
The lives and deeds of these people should not perish from the earth but should live on in their records of stone and iron and manuscript. These records should be snatched from destruction, gathered together, and reverently preserved. The babe of unborn to remote generations should know of the brave beginning. - J. A. Sheldon
