The purpose of
the Southwest Indiana Wilhite Family Association is to foster a
spirit of belonging and kinship between long-separated
Wilhite
families with roots in the Southwest Indiana counties of Gibson,
Vanderburgh, Pike, Posey and Warrick.
Research has revealed that Joseph Wilhight settled in Gibson County in the late 1820's with ten children, eight of them were boys. We think those eight sons married in either Gibson or Vanderburgh Counties and their descendants have spread through the area.
If you have Wilhite ancestors with
connections to Southwest Indiana, then we want to hear from you.
Please contact us. We want to hear
about your family history, and we want to make the Southwest Indiana
Association of Wilhite Families as inclusive as possible for everyone
with Wilhite connections.
Although our parents and grandparents
repeatedly told us, "We are not related to any other Wilhite families,"
we had to come from somewhere. All Wilhite familes, regardless of
the spelling variations, can trace their roots back to Johann Michael
Wilheit who came to America from Germany around 1720 and is associated
with the Second Germanna Colony. He purchased land in Orange County,
Virginia in 1728, from there his descendants spread west into North
Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Texas, Indiana, Illinois
and into all the rest of the United States.
The first Southwest Indiana Association
of Wilhite Families reunion is scheduled for June 27, 2004 and if
you have Wilhite connections you are invited. Note: if you have Wilhite
family ties, but are sure those connections do not pass through the
Joseph Wilhite family, we would still love to hear from you. Please
sign our guest book, or contact us, we would be very pleased to have
you to join us at our reunion.
