The purpose of this index is to depict the family connections between all of the descendants of the children of Joseph Wilhite and Polly Spilman. Because of security concerns, we do not list the names of living descendants.

This list borrows entirely from published material, (credits provided) for the early generations of Wilhites from Georg Willert in Schwaigern, Württemberg to Michael Wilhite in Virginia. Starting with Joseph Wilhite in Woodford County, Kentucky and later in Southwest Indiana, the listings are all the result of local research.We have the names of 10 children of Joseph and Polly Wilhite (there could have been one more). We have the names of 40 of their grandchildren, there could have been 20-25 more. Of those 40 grandchildren we know more family history for only 20 of them. From this limited group of 20 of the grandchildren of Joseph and Polly, we know the identity of 91of their great-grandchildren, but we only have additional family history for 49 of these 91 great-grandchildren.
In the next generation (the 4th generation--great-great-grandchildren) of descendants of Joseph and Polly we have listed only the names of the deceased descendants—at least 14 and probably several more, are still living. (Because of privacy considerations, no living descendants are listed in this index). In total we know the names of 129 individuals in this 4th generation.
As of the year 2003, we are in the 7th and probably in the 8th generation of descendants of Joseph and Polly Wilhite. It is likely that there are at least 1,500 living and deceased descendants of Joseph and Polly Wilhite, less than 1/3 of them have been identified at this point.

1617 at Schwaigern, Württemberg. The earliest record that
mentions the Willheit family is a 1539 tax record in Schwaigern.
Variations in the spelling of the surname are Wylhart, Wilheitt,
Wilheyt, and Wilhatt in that tax record. Those taxed in the 1539
record were Michael Wylhart, Jerg Wyhart, Jacob Wilheitt, Anthoni
Wilheyt, and Quirin Wylhatt. It is impossible to directly connect
any of these to the ancestry of Johann
Michael Willheit, the immigrant
to Virginia. Johni Cerny and Gary J. Zimmerman, Before Germanna No. 1 Georg Willheit was the son of Georg Willert. He was born circa
1580 at Schwaigern, Württemberg, Germany. Georg Willheit
