HISTORY

WINDELL'S RESTAURANT - 1947

On the corner where Windell's parking is, there has been several businesses. In 1926 Martin Elliott erected a garage to a filling station that was on this lot. In 1930 Joseph Gogel purchased the Diamond Service station from Robert Winkler.

Windell's Restaurant has been a successful business in Dale drawing people from all over to eat the home cooked food. In 1947 a resident of Corydon, IN purchased the restaurant from Roy and Ann Ranger. That same year Bob and Margaret Windell opened for business featuring breakfast, daily plate lunches, sandwiches and homemade desserts.

Gerald and Barbara Kissel reopened Windell's in 1980. The restaurant had been closed for two years. They specialized in home baked pies and large baked potatoes. They sold the restaurant in 1985 to Ruth and Vic Klem.

Darrel and Betty Jenkins bought the restaurant in 1991. The tradition of daily lunch plates with that home cooked taste, and a variety of tasty desserts have continued. Windell's remains a favorite meeting place of Dale townspeople, beginning with breakfast in the morning, or coffee at the famous "horseshoe bar". The restaurant is also a meeting place for the Dale Kiwanis Club every Monday morning and a monthly meeting place of the Ministerial Association.
