Dubois County Skywarn Net: Quick Reference
Skywarn activity in Dubois County usually begins early in the day. A page is typically issued at 7AM to alert our units when a severe weather potential exits for that day based on Storm Prediction Center guidance. As the threat of locally severe weather escalates and spotter activition becomes necessary, the National Weather Service at Louisville is normally contacted and advised of our active Skywarn status.
Net Control:
  • As Severe Weather Approaches Locally:
    • Contact The NWS And Advise Of Active Status
    • Declare A Directed Net (maintain order)
    • Activate The Skywarn/Directed Net
    • Take Roll Call
    • Designate Tornado Warning Plan Callout Units (In Case Later Needed)
    • Delegate Net Control Function In Particularly Active Situations
  • Maintain An Activity Log Throughout Event
  • Relay Severe Weather Reports To NWS
  • Disseminate Watches/Warnings In Abbreviated Fashion
  • Spotter Safety Comes First!
Skywarn Units:
  • Keep Safety In Mind At All Times
  • Wait Two Seconds After Courtesy Tone Before Transmitting
  • ID First, Then Stand By & Wait To Be Addressed
  • Insure Factual Weather Information Passed (Hail Size, Wind Speed, Etc.)
  • When Requested To Only Report Severe Weather
    • Only Report Weather Meeting NWS Severe Criteria

  • Use 444.675 Mhz Repeater For Tactical
