Rubber Soul
Rubber Soul marked a transition for the Beatles. They started to move out
of the simple love songs and into the psychadelic era. This is one of
my favorite albums. DRIVE MY CAR starts out the album well with a good tune
from Paul. NORWEGIAN WOOD was the first Beatles song to use a sitar, introduced
into the band by George. YOU WON'T SEE ME is a great song. I love the oohlala backing
vocals. NOWHERE MAN is another three part harmony written by John.
THINK FOR YOURSELF is a decent George song. THE WORD is a neat song written by John.
MICHELLE is a catchy song by Paul. It has some French lines in it that sound like
Someday monkeys won't play piano songs. WHAT GOES ON is a song John resurrected for
Ringo. It is a delightful country-like tune that gave Ringo his first composer credit.
GIRL is a good story by John. I like the intake of breath in the chorus.
I'M LOOKING THROUGH YOU is a good rock song by Paul. IN MY LIFE is a masterpiece written by
John mostly about his past. WAIT is a song written during the Help sessions that is one of the
weakest songs on here. IF I NEEDED SOMEONE is one of George's first really good songs.
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE is considered weak by many, but I like the catchy tune, and the lyrics are different.
This marks a change into psychadelic rock for the Beatles, and I believe it is the period where their
music is the best. This is one of my favorite albums.
