Eileen and I purchased our Goldwing on August 1,1997. I began the search for other Goldwings on the Internet. I soon found many sites and references of proud Goldwing owners and various Chapters of the GWRRA which stands for Gold Wing Road Riders Association. During a casual conversation with a friend I found out that she and her husband had a Goldwing and that they belonged to Chapter INO which means Chapter O in Indiana. Chapter O is in Evansville Indiana. They invited us to the next chapter meeting and we anxiously agreed to go.
After riding to Evansville we approached the restaurant where the meeting was held. After parking Grapenuts, we admired all the bikes the members had ridden there. We had a great dinner and then listened as the meeting progressed. Membership is made up of folks from both Indiana and Kentucky. We were warmly welcomed and joined Chapter O at the end of the meeting!
Since that time we have been riding with Chapter O on many enjoyable rides. Many are one day rides to various places within a 75 - 250 radius of Evansville. We also have had the chance in 1998 to ride with fellow chapter members to the Tennessee Rally in Pigion Forge, Indiana Rally in Bloomington, Kentucky Rally in Cave City and our most exciting trip in 1998 was our trip to Wing Ding 98 in Huntsville AL. Wing Ding is the International Rally for the GWRRA. It was estimated that over 6000 Goldwings and 11,000 members attended. I must admit that Eileen and our other chapter members had a tough time pulling me away from looking at the sea of Goldwings that were there. Our first Wing Ding was a memorable experience that we will always remember.
Besides the opportunity to ride, you get to meet and become friends with some great people through the GWRRA. You also learn a tremendous amount of information about your motorcycle and how to safely operate it. You learn how to safely ride in groups and how to show courtesy to fellow riders and even those traveling in the 4 wheeler's!
